The present paper presents a fully differential 60 GHz four stages low-noise amplifier for wireless applications. The amplifier has been optimized for low-noise, high-gain, and low-power consumption, and implemented in a 90 nm low-power CMOS technology. Matching and common-mode rejection networks have been realized using shielded coplanar transmission lines. The amplifier achieves a peak small-sig
Realization of a 30-W highly efficient and linear reconfigurable dual-band power amplifier using the continuous mode approach

This paper presents the design methodology and the realization of a highly linear and power-efficient reconfigurable dual-band amplifier based on the continuous/Class-ABJ approach. The Class-ABJ theory allows presenting different reactive solutions on both fundamental and second harmonic terminations compared with the standard Class-AB mode. Despite the various terminations, a constant optimum out
BER-driven synthesis for directional modulation secured wireless communication

Directional modulation (DM) is a recently introduced technique for secure wireless transmission using direct physical layer wave-front manipulation. This paper provides a bit error rate (BER)-based DM array synthesis method. It is shown for the first time that the standard constellation mappings in In-phase and Quadrature (IQ) space to a pre-specified BER can be exactly achieved along a given spec
Coplanar waveguide-fed ISM band implantable crossed-type triangular slot antenna for biomedical applications

A novel coplanar waveguide fed Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band implantable crossed-type triangular slot antenna is proposed for biomedical applications. The antenna operates at the center frequency of 2450 MHz, which is in ISM band, to support GHz wideband communication for high-data rate implantable biomedical application. The size of the antenna is 78 mm (10 mm × 12 mm × 0.65 mm).
Optimized hyper beamforming of receiving linear antenna arrays using Firefly algorithm

In this paper, an optimized hyper beamforming method is presented based on a hyper beam exponent parameter for receiving linear antenna arrays using a new meta-heuristic search method based on the Firefly algorithm (FFA). A hyper beam is derived from the sum and difference beam patterns of the array, each raised to the power of a hyper beam exponent parameter. As compared to the conventional hyper

A high-directivity switched-beam antenna in the V-band is presented and includes a circularly-polarized transmit-array realized in a low-cost printed technology associated with a focal source array integrated on high-resistivity silicon. The measurements show a maximum gain of 12.1 dBi, a 3-dB gain-bandwidth of 57.8?70 GHz, and an axial ratio below 5 dB. The antenna exhibits five beams pointing fr
Miniature directive antennas

This paper presents the work carried out to assess the feasibility of miniature directive antennas. It is based on an analysis of the physical limits of antenna directivity in general and in particular as a function of their compact dimensions. A state of the art is done to identify and classify techniques to increase the directivity of compact antennas.
