This paper reports on the ohmic contacts of an radio-frequency micro-electro-mechanical-system (RF MEMS) switch. The structure of the MEMS is described briefly to give information about the organization of the switch device. The most significant performance data are reported, indicating very low actuation voltage below 5 V, switching time of <10 µs and good RF performance for frequencies up to 5 G

This paper presents a radio frequency micro-electro-mechanical-systems (RF MEMS) fabrication process based on a stacked structural layer and Au?Au thermocompression bonding, and reports on the performance of a sample RF MEMS switch design implemented with this process. The structural layer consists of 0.1 µm SiO/0.2 µm SiN/1 µm Cr?Au layers with a tensile stress less than 50 MPa deposited on a sil

In this paper, we present the first ridge-gap waveguide resonator made with a polymer base. It is designed for the frequency range 220?325 GHz, and is fabricated solely using a Au coated two-layer SU8-based process. The design is based on previous work done with Si. The new process has advantages such as fewer and cheaper process steps. The SU8 ridge-gap waveguide resonator is made in order to obt

This work presents radio-frequency-microelectromechanical-system (RF-MEMS)-based tunable input- and output-matching networks for a multi-band gallium nitride (GaN) power-amplifier applications. In the first part, circuit designs are shown and characterized for a fixed operation mode of the transistor, i.e. either a maximum-output-power- or a maximum-power-added-efficiency (PAE)-mode, which are fin

This paper presents a novel miniaturized substrate integrated waveguide filter by combining both half-mode resonators and capacitive loading on a conventional two-layer printed circuit board (PCB) process. The resulting synthesis is successfully demonstrated in an long-term evolution application by means of a third-order filter of <225 mm in size while featuring 2.3 dB insertion loss over a 5.5% f

The wideband coherent-pulse radar provides high-resolution image of the target. The model of this image is a complex envelope superposition corresponding to signals diffracted by the point scatterers. The values of complex envelopes are distributed over the radar image coordinate plane in accordance with the point scatterer positions and their reflection coefficients. The radar image model consist

An FM-ultra-wideband (UWB) system with a wideband RF carrier (WRC) is proposed for wireless body area network applications. The proposed system can control the channel power by means of an adjustable carrier bandwidth (BW), while the conventional one with a CW carrier (CWC) makes use of peak power control. The implemented WRC system performances have been evaluated for the WRC generation and digit

In this paper, a new configuration of dual-band, dual-polarized microstrip antenna applicable to mobile base stations is proposed. The concept behind the new design is the use of an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) structure that operates in the required two bands beneath a radiating diamond shaped slot. The choice of the diamond-shaped slot is due to its support of an infinite number of resona

This proposed work illustrates the design of a defected ground structure (DGS)-based coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed multiband microstrip antenna consisting of four vertical monopoles, joined together by the few rectangular horizontal strips. In this multiband antenna, I-shaped defects are inserted into both sides of ground plane of CPW feed creating a DGS-CPW. The 10 dB impedance bandwidth of lower
